NOTE: IP Networking skills can be substituted for the Satcom skills below.


Overview:

The Network Operations Center (NOC) Engineer maintains a high level of satellite communications for our customers and assists with any transmission inquiries/problems, involving a broad range of satellite communications, and network services.  Provides real-time status on communications network traffic transmitted within the network.  In addition, the NOC engineer gathers load and demand information, allowing us to continuously optimize network performance and ensure quality of service/reliability to customers.  Communicates directly on a technical level with customers in the field as well as internal teams such as Engineering, Sales and Program Management Team.  Lastly, the NOC Engineer manages, monitors and maintains communications equipment, performance of the communications networks and resolves remote user and hub problems as required as well as manages and executes activations, transitions and restoration of services.

Experience/Qualifications:
  • A degree in Telecommunications, Networking or at least three years technical experience working in the satellite telecommunications field
  • Experience with satellite communications equipment, microwave systems, antenna tracking systems or fiber optic systems
  • Ability to troubleshoot satellite/data problems remotely, over the phone, or via e-mail
  • Ability to operate earth station equipment and communications test equipment
  • Ability to work well in a (24/7/365) shift environment  
  • Ability to prioritize, isolate problems/return communications to operational status
  • Requires carrying a cell phone 24/7 and responding to business requirements
  • Excellent communication skills (both oral and written)
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Able to work independently and must possess excellent multi-tasking skills 
  • Displays good judgment and makes sound decisions
  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers and peers to achieve results
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of MS office and Visio
  • Network +/ CCNA certifications are a plus
  • Military experience as a satellite operator is a plus 
  • Satellite Earth station/teleport experience a plus
  • i-Direct, HNS, Via Sat training a plus
  • Required to lift equipment of up 75 pounds
  • Occasionally, may require up to 25% travel
  • Valid driver's license required

Essential Job Functions:
  • Maintains a high level of satellite communications for our customers and assists with any transmission inquiries/problems, involving a broad range of satellite communications and network services
  • Provides real-time status on communications network traffic transmitted within our network
  • Gathers load and demand information, allowing us to continuously optimize network performance and ensure quality of service/reliability to customers
  • Communicates directly on a technical level with customers in the field as well as internal teams such as Engineering, Sales and Program Management Team

  • Isolates, repairs and restores service to customer networks  
  • Works with customers to troubleshoot and restore remote access problems
  • Achieves a high rate of problem resolution/trouble closure on initial call
  • Keeps customers informed regarding communication restoration by providing regular updates until problems are resolved and service is restored
  • Meets and/or exceeds the requirements specified in Service Level Agreements
  • Helps end users access the satellite  
  • Implements new satellite communications services
  • Maintains remote equipment with software and firmware downloads
  • Supports customers, Program Engineers/Managers and Bandwidth Managers 
  • Performs all tasks and duties required to successfully capture and facilitate the reporting processes for internal and external interfaces per defined standards
  • Provides network support and escalates to next level when required
  • Monitors customers transmitted satellite carriers ensuring they are within parameters
  • As required, schedules vendor access to remote locations for repair and maintenance
  • Implements preventive/corrective maintenance on satellite communications equipment
  • Maintains records of maintenance and repairs of customer networks
  • Provides the Program of Record with an up to date and correct status of trouble repair, resolution and times of trouble resolution
  • Works closely with Senior Engineers in Program Management and Engineering to develop new technical solutions for customers as required
