SatCom Sales Engineer - Government Solutions

Main purpose of this role

The Sales Engineer is the primary technical point of contact for the hiring company's government Distribution Partners (DPs), end-user customers within the Government business sector and technical liaison to sales engineering and service delivery teams. The Sales Engineer is an integral member of the Government business development and account management teams providing support in all aspects of defining, developing and implementing solutions for distribution partners and end-user customers using the hiring company's network.

Key Areas of Responsibility and Accountability
  • Requirements qualification and validation with direct interface with DPs  and end-user customer’s engineers, and management/business development staff
  • Assist DPs in:
    • the development of optimized technical service solutions for end-user customer requirements,
    • preparation of  technical proposals in support of informal sales requests, and
    • preparation of formal RFPs responses with a detailed understanding of the end-user customer’s service needs, application/mission environment and Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) drivers
  • Perform engineering  analyses to determine how services can be offered and optimized
  • In coordination with sales engineering and commercial management teams, review and approve DP-generated link budget analyses
  • Prepare and present technical briefings on service solutions, systems design and standard products and service delivery processes to be presented to DPs and end-user customers
  • Provide training on the hiring company's services and products to DPs
  • Organize end-user customer service trials and pilots with and without DPs participation
  • Support Marketing Department as technical author when required (Case study prep, and application notes etc.)
  • Represent the hiring company at government trade shows and government industry conferences
  • Work with government DPs to help them grow their business with the hiring company by identifying and supporting development of new applications which can be supported and service expansions which can be contracted
  • Track and understand new satellite access schemes, earth station antenna design, and wireless and network technologies, systems and applications.  Understand their use with the hiring company system to support end-to-end customer service applications
  • Recommend to DPs new technologies being developed for use with the hiring company's system which can better serve their customer needs and increase hiring company’s share of their business
  • Work with Product Development, and  Network and Space Systems Engineering to understand  what DPs  need to grow their business in terms of follow- on satellite architectures, new product types, ground terminal developments, service cost models, beam placements, and hiring company operations  customer service  support
  • When required and available, provide Sales Engineering support to other sales teams, other than the Government vertical with Line Manager’s knowledge and approval.
  • Other ad-hoc duties or projects, as required by the Line Manager
  • US Citizen
  • Able to obtain as a minimum a SECRET security clearance; active or able to re-instate clearance a plus
  • Bachelor in Electrical Engineering/Communications/Computer Science or  at least 10 years of practical and directly related hands-on experience
  • Knowledge of English is essential 
  • Excellent communication ability, both in written and verbal
  • Strong interpersonal, presentation and sales proposal skills
Specific Experience:
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant industry experience
  • Knowledge of satellite transmission analysis and optimization
  • Knowledge of satellite access technologies and earth station components
  • Working knowledge of the design and architecture of enterprise networks that utilize and incorporate satellite communications for government applications, including but not limited to: command and control, remote and mobile video conferencing, ISR, back office business systems, VOIP, etc.; hands-on experience with some or all of these applications a definite plus.
