Main Purpose of This Role

The Senior System Engineer is responsible for providing technical leadership and support to the spacecraft platform engineering team. The Senior System Engineer will review technical reports, perform spacecraft system level analysis and anomaly investigation in support of the Engineering Manager.
Key Areas of Responsibility and Accountability
Senior Space Operations System Engineer function shall entail any or all of the following functions:
  • Technical Leadership
    • Thorough understanding of spacecraft subsystems
    • Support system exercises and training
    • System Engineering:
      • Tool requirements development
      • Trade studies
      • Process review and improvement
      • Technical Reports, analyses and forecasts
      • Trending - Establish, analyze and maintain relevant trending of performance parameters
    • Supervise Platform Engineering technical performance
      • Review reports and analysis
      • Develop/Review spacecraft control procedures
    • Execute Standard Operating Procedures and Processes
  • Anomaly Response
    • On-call support for system level anomalies
      • Maintain high level of readiness
      • Provide guidance and support subsystem engineers in subsystem level investigations.
    • Support Anomaly Response Board
      • Apply a methodical anomaly investigation process
      • Support and review response and corrective actions from each system element; provide recommendations to overall approach
      • Validate, document and implement workarounds
  • Engineering Communication
    • System Engineering Support to Mission Management
    • Support communication and a good working relationship with spacecraft manufacturer
    • Provide Engineering support to Flight Operations - Coordinate spacecraft and engineering activities
  • Systems Integration
    • Space Operations Launch Readiness Planning along with Launch and Early Orbit Operations support
    • System Engineering and integration of new capabilities into Space Engineering
    • Requirements definitions and proposal review   
  • US Citizen, Green Card holder or US Permanent Resident
  • Bachelors of Science in an Engineering discipline
  • Preferred: Masters of Science in an Engineering discipline
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, in English
Specific Knowledge & Experience:
  • A minimum of 10 years of technical and hands-on application relevant experience showing steady increase in overall responsibility;
  • Specific experience successfully working with and within large organizational infrastructures
  • Experience working in a team environment managing day to day activities
  • Proven ability to smoothly organize and apply structure to potentially chaotic and confusing situations such as may occur in an operations environment.

  • Patience and tenacity to work with others with English as a second language.
  • Demonstrated performance as a reliable team player
  • Self-Starter with a high level of personal accountability
Other requirements:
  • Ability to travel internationally at up to 10% of the time, potentially more for limited periods of time in support of launch
